Bill Diman - W2WLD, AFFC Executive Officer
After graduation from Brown University, I entered the Naval Aviation Officer Candidate program and received my pilot wings in early 1968. Assigned to anti-submarine warfare, I flew the P-3 Orion during two Patrol Squadron and one Patrol Wing tour.
Bill is shown here at the top of the ladder, with his P-3 Orion crew.
The squadron assignments involved extended deployments to Iceland, the Azores, Sicily and Bermuda. My other flying assignments included primary flight instructor (T-34B) in Pensacola and command of a training squadron (T-28, T-34C) in Corpus Christi. For two years, I served as Assistant Navigator on the aircraft carrier Forrestal and flew the C-1. I was later, Commanding Officer of Recruiting District Buffalo and Commander of Recruiting Area One in Scotia, NY, where I retired as an O-6 with 26 years active service.
My second career was as County Communications Systems Director, responsible for the design, acquisition and maintenance of the local 911 system. After 20 years of service in that capacity, I retired for the second time in 2009.
My other hobby involves British MG sports cars. I have owned at least one, without a break since 1966. My wife and I currently have a 1952 MGTD (pictured at left) and a 1966 MGB (below).
Like amateur radio, this hobby has afforded us wonderful friends from all walks of life that we otherwise would have never met.
I have the pleasure of serving as the AFFC Net Controller on Wednesday mornings. Tune in and join us when you can!
