Jack Hollister - KM4CAX

I am a Damned Yankee...a Yankee that came South and stayed!!

I was raised in the country on the lesser populated head of Skaneateles Lake, one of the Finger Lakes in Central NY.  I went to a one room school house with my Mother as my teacher for Grades 1-6.  I actually started school at age 4, and the teacher promoted me to 2nd grade, but my Mom said I was too young, so when she started teaching, I went through first grade again. Most people think if you are from NY that you are from NY City, but NY has many rural communities.

The school is still there, but it is now a Historical Site, kept up by locals.

My military career began in 1963. I became a NROTC Midshipman at Columbia College, in New York City in 1959. 1963 was a big year for me.  I graduated on June 3rd, was commissioned as an Ensign on June 4th, and married my present wife, Andora, on June 7th!

After two years of flight training, I reported to VP-45 in Jacksonville, Florida in June 1965 for a three year tour on the P-3 Orion anti-submarine patrol plane.

I served in Adak, AK, Argentia, Newfoundland, Bermuda, and the Azores.
I was extended an extra year, and was sent to Corpus Christi, Texas to instruct students on the S-2 Tracker, a twin-engine anti-submarine aircraft.

In 1969 I joined the Navy Reserve, and later that year started a 25-year career with Delta Air Lines. While in the Reserves, I flew the P-3 Orion out of Jacksonville, and attained the rank of  Captain.

In December, 1994 I retired from Delta Airlines as Captain of a B-767.

I earned my ham license somewhat late in life, taking both the technician and the general tests on the same day in June, 2014.

I have been a member of the AFFC for about 3 years, and serve as net control on one Sunday a month, and substitute as needed. I really enjoy the AFFC, and have made some very good friends there.
