Paul Stichick - K3BTP
I enlisted in the USAF in 1961 and served for 11 years reaching the rank of TSgt. I received a commission in 1972 and retired in December 1984.
During my AF career, I worked as an aircraft mechanic with C-130 A models at
Évreux-Fauville Air Base in France where I was awarded “The Airman’s Medal” for actions during a C-130 fire.
I was subsequently assigned to the 3rd Mobile Communication Group at Tinker AFB, OK in my secondary AFSC. I served in South and Central America and various other TDY locations.
From Tinker, I was reassigned to Korat AFB, Thailand with the 388th TFW with F-105 aircraft, then to McConnell AFB in Kansas with F-105s, then to the 62nd Airlift Wing at McCord AFB Washington with C-141s.
I obtained a commission at McCord and was assigned to Chanute AFB, Illinois for Aircraft Maintenance Officer technical training followed by an assignment to Homestead AFB, FL.
I was later reassigned to Griffiss AFB, NY, then back to Homestead. From Homestead, I was assigned to Lajes Air Base in the Azores Islands.
Upon returning to the US, I was assigned to the 60th Airlift Wing at Travis AFB with C-5s and C-141s, then across the base to the 307th Air refueling Wing (SAC) with KC-135s. I retired from Travis in 1984.
I subsequently took a position as a civil servant with the Department of the Army in Europe where I served at Nuremberg, Wurzburg, Ansbach, Heidelberg and at SHAPE in Belgium.
I have been a Ham since 1956, and am currently an Extra Class Amateur. I have been licensed in France, Thailand, the Azores and Germany. My “ex” calls signs are F7ED, HS1PS, C2DE, ON9CSP and DA1LT.
